PROGRESSION OF THE ENTRIES FOR 59TH OSTRAVA GOLDEN SPIKE
The rich meeting tradition, the general interest of the event and the improving situation not only in the Czech Republic but plenty European countries bring back the hope that also in the new date, on 8th September , we will see the best home athletes as well as the foreign opponents on the start. There are two Diamond League meetings planned before Ostrava: in Brussels on Friday 4th September and in Paris on 6th September. At the same date, the Continental Tour meeting in the nearby Polish city of Chorzów will take place. It means that the athletes will be able to travel within the actual possibilities and they will be available. The organizers will confirm the final program of the events during July. From the Czech elite, they count in September with the men´s and women´s javelin competitions, with Jakub Vadlejch, Barbora Špotáková and Nikola Ogrodníková. From the foreign opponents, we expect Sara Kolak of Croatia. Among men, the German 90m stars should not be missing. The shot put sector will offer the duel of Tomáš Staněk with the Croatian indoor tour winner Filip Mihaljevic. The meeting record holder Tom Walsh of New Zealand has also been interested to compete. However, his presence in Europe is unclear yet.
In jumping events, the organizers are still thinking about the program due to the available international stars able to arrive. In sprints, the high quality opponents for the international competition might by home athlete Zdenek Stromšík and the Slovak star Ján Volko. The organizers also count with the women´s 1500m for Simona Vrzalová. The men´s 800m may bring for the Czech runners Lukáš Hodboď and Filip Šnejdr the silver from the World Championships in Doha Amel Tuka of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
