EARLIER DATE FOR OLYMPIC GAMES PROMISSES GREAT PERFORMANCES AND RECORDS
The earlier date of the postponed summer Olympic Games will help to achieve better performances, stated the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting director Jan Železný. “I believe we will have a profit from the earlier date of the Olympics. Athletes will time their shape to earlier date and thus I believe, we will have the chance to see plenty great performances,” said Železný at the press conference in Ostrava last Thursday.
Except the sterling javelin or the triple jump, also the pole vault sector may offer great performances. Ostrava was looking forward to the premiere of the Olympic champion Ekaterina Stefanidi of Greece. Her personal maximum is 491cm. The meeting record from 2004 is 483cm in Ostrava – will she break it? “With the best support from the crowds in Ostrava, I do believe she will,” added Železný.
The records will be shaken also in the next sector – the shot put. The last year maximum od 22.27m will be attacked again by the New Zealand giant Tom Walsh.
