How was the OSTRAVA GOLDEN SPIKE 2019: It hosted 21 medallists from Doha World Champs

16. 12. 2019 | 10:05

The 58th Ostrava Golden Spike was in 2019 an extraordinary experience. For example, the 206cm of Maria Lasickene in the women´s high jump ended up as the world´s leading mark of the year. The history was made also in the women´s 300m race with 34.41 by Shaunae Miller-Uibo. Magnus Kirt sent his javelin to the distance of 90.34m and became the second best result of 2019. In total, we witnessed four future world champions from Doha (Christian Coleman, Steven Gardiner, Sam Kendricks, Maria Lasickene) and also the relay member, who won the 100m, Mike Rodgers.

We also need to add the next 16 medal holders. From a total of 14 events of the Ostrava Golden Spike, we have seen at least one medallist from Doha in 13 of them. The high quality of the field was undisputed. Only a women´s javelin throw stayed without a future Doha medallist, however, with six of the later world championships finalists. Sara Kolak ended up the best on the seventh place.
