Thanks to pandemics, he rediscovered his potential

Ugandan long-distance runner and 2019 world champion in the 10,000 m. Joshua Cheptegei is the tenth man in history to hold the 5,000 m and 10,000 m world records concurrently, both set in 2020. Silver from the 2017 World Championships in London. He competes in Ostrava for the first time.

JOSHUA CHEPTEGEI

About his shape and preparation

This is very unique year, and here I will test my speed for the Olympic games. I think at this moment I am pretty satisfied, and at the right place in the right moment.

About distances

It is a bit of a challenge to do a different distances, I am to pick my favourite it would be 10 000 metres though, because I can endure the speed without a problem. I plan to run 10 000 metres at the Olympic Games.

About importance of the 3 000 race in Ostrava

That is a tricky question, the first thing is to think about the meeting record and to run as fast as possible.

About pandemic and trainings

Pandemic did a lot of harm to us but I was able to rediscover my potential and run different lengths, without pandemic I dont think I would have 2 world records.

About Uganda

Uganda is open for international athletes to come, the goverment was very supportive to athletes. Also Uganda is the only place where you can watch gorrilas in nature, also the the alpha male of gorrilas – that is possible only in Uganda.

About Golden Spike race

The first thing is to wake up in healthy body and mind, and the second thing is how good the weather will be.

About plans

Now I just focus on tomorrow, then I will probably run a race in Florencia, and then the Olympic Games start.
