10. 05. 2022 | 09:00

The 61st edition of the Golden Spike Ostrava is adding other star names to the list of participants for Tuesday, May 31, also on the basis of current events.

World Leader Omanyala vs Simbine

On Saturday at the Continental Tour Gold in Nairobi, the biggest star was the winner of the 100m, Ferdinand Omanyala, in the performance of 9.85. It was this currently the fastest sprinter in the world that also hired Golden Spike. The Kenyan will have its premiere here, last year he improved his African record to 9.77. The second best African in history, South African Akani Simbine with 9.84 will also be at the start in the 100m in Ostrava. He was fourth at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, fourth in 2019 and second in 2018 at the Golden Spike. The fastest Czech sprinters, Jan Veleba, Zdeněk Stromšík and Dominik Záleský, will traditionally meet the world's elite.

Great 800m

The men's 800m also promises an exceptional experience. The Polish bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympics and the European indoor champion 2021 Patryk Dobek will come with a maximum of 1:43.73. The next star will be Nijel Amos from Botswana, silver medalist from the 2012 Olympics, last year's finalist in Tokyo and especially the holder of the third best time in history 1:41.73. By the way, the current president of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, has the same performance. The young generation will be represented, for example, by last year's world junior champion and Saturday's winner in Nairobi, Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi. He only has 17 and already 1:43.76 in his account. Also British Max Burgin, who set the European junior record last year with 1:44.14 at the Golden Spike.

Ticket sales

As in 2021, all performances can be watched by spectators in 140 countries around the world, where the television signal travels.

Chocolate Spike

In addition to working on the details of the Golden Spike Ostrava and finalizing its preparations, the basic rounds of the Chocolate Spike are already running in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Zdeněk Stromšík took part in the role of ambassador in Vyškov, Jiří Mužík in Blansko, Matúš Bubeník, Olympic high jumper in Olomouc, and Šárka Kašpárková in Břeclav.

The next rounds will be in Český Těšín, Bratislava, Opava, Vsetín, Třinec and Košice this week.
